Blogpost 7: Mania

In the past few post is all about depression. Let's talk about something else, M.A.N.I.A. What is mania ? mania is a state of abnormally elevated or irritable mood, arousal and energy levels. It is also the opposite of my past few posts called depression. In addition to mood swings, people may be prone to the highs of mania if they are exposed to drug intoxication (such as stimulants, cocaine, and methamphetamine) also if you read my previous post about bipolar disorder you can see that mania is associated with bipolar disorder where the episodes of mania may alternate with the episodes of depression. Mania is not a disorder itself but rather a part of bipolar disorder and mood swings.

one article by Marcia Purse which she entitled: "Symptoms of Mania" in the website www.bipolar.about.com she said:
"Mania is the hallmark of Bipolar I disorder, and hypomania of Bipolar II and Cyclothymia. Some of the symptoms of mania and hypomania are behaviors that others can easily observe; other symptoms occur in the mind of the manic person and are not visible, but are often reported to others."
what she said was right, mania is associated with bipolar disorder. Mania can be easily observed within people who have manic depression, bipolar disorder, and etc. people who has mania may experience lack of interest in sleeping and eating. They lack interest in sleeping because of too many thoughts are going through their minds, For me it's hard to have mania because I'm the kind of person that wants to sleep all day.

Suggestions ? anyone ? well I can suggest something when we encounter some people who get irritated with us let's just understand them first maybe they have mania or they did not get enough sleep, we should not be rude on people with this kind of disorder.

Blogpost 6: Teen Depression

Teen Depression  ? How to handle teen depression ? Can it affect your teen's studies ? What are the causes of teen depression ? Okay there's too many questions about teen depression. First of all what is depression ? In my own opinion depression is a state of low mood and most people in this state tends to be sad, hopeless, unworthy and anxious.

Teenage years is the time of  emotional highs and lows of  people. Usually teenagers often suffer mood swings because of depression, because teenagers nowadays is more likely vulnerable of being depressed easily; like because of lovelife, money, strict parents and more. There was a time when teen depression reached the media, that's the time of the so called "EMO" people. They became popular because of their actions of being depressed, It's weird right ? you're just depressed then suddenly you are famous because of that Emo teens are usually depressed because of their love ones hurting them and some because of family. But love life is the main cause of teenagers to be depressed. The state of being depressed is dangerous to teens because they might have suicidal thoughts. There are some reports about teenagers committing suicide.

According to Ugo Uche in his article "Telling The Difference Between Moodiness And Depression in Teens" that can be found on www.psychologyoday.com He said:

"Sleep

The typical teenager will get by with a lot less sleep than the average adult. So while not the healthiest of habits, a bed time of midnight for a teenager is not unheard of. However parents should become concerned, if they notice their teenager has been sleeping excessively or constantly complaining about not getting enough sleep."
He said that sleeping can affect teenage depression status, I think to that teenagers should have enough sleep for them to control their moods even if they are in a depression state or in a low state of feeling.

Anyway I would suggest to all the teens that is reading this blog you should be open with your parents, you can not handle your problems by yourself cause remember you are still a TEEN.

Blogpost 5: A.D.H.D

What is ADHD ? Is it a disorder  ? Is it contagious ? Is it related to changing moods ? Well it will be answered later but first i want to share some experience about ADHD.

I have a friend and his brother have ADHD at first i was like: "what is adhd ?" then he said "It's a behavioral disorder" Soafter that I was like: "Ow, okay" then as I have met his brother I noticed that he's brother is acting strange but it's my opinion to what I see. I said that because he's brother is like he can't be in 1 position or place he always needs to run, jump, play, and talk and talk and talk.. He's so active more like super active I even noticed when he is playing with his friends after playing his friends were so tired and exhausted but my friend's brother was like "I wanna play

more !" he's like he never get tired even though he played for some hours. STRAIGHT. It's like it has added extra burst of adrenaline in his body. Then there is one thing that hit my curiosity about my friend's brother and that is after playing his brother's mood started to change rapidly. When his friend's said goodbye he's irritated to them all of a sudden. I asked my friend if there are things that could worsen his brother's situation. He said "I think there are things that could worsen or emphasize my brother's disorder" so as my curiosity risen up I read topics about what could worsen or affect a child that has a ADHD.

I read the article of Stephanie Watson entitled  "ADHD, Food Dyes, and Additives"  in the site www.webmd.com
"artificial food colorings can worsen ADHD symptoms such as inattentiveness and hyperactivity. And if you have a child with ADHD, you may have considered cutting out dyes and other additives from their diet. Before you make any dietary changes, here are a few things you should know about the link between food colorings and ADHD."

So parents should be aware to what their child eats everyday because some of the foods that their child is taking / eating might worsen up the disorder. Stephanie Watson  also said; still in her article "ADHD, Food Dyes, and Additives"in the site www.webmd.com

"The possible connection between ADHD symptoms and food dyes started with San Francisco pediatrician and allergist Benjamin Feingold. In the early 1970s, Feingold noted that hyperactive kids became calmer when they ate a diet free from artificial colors, flavors, and preservatives."

So food dye can affect someone with ADHD or in some cases it can also worsen it up like give too much hyperactivity or something. Maybe my friend don't know that food dye or some foods can affect his brother's situation.

Anyways, to all people who happens to know someone with ADHD Please be aware of what the are eating cause it might be bad for them. And try to warn them about foods that they should avoid.

And of course for parents who have a son/daughter with ADHD please be patient to them understand that sometimes they change moods rapidly. And try to examine foods that they are intaking in their body.

Blogpost 4: Depression (mood swings)

 THE FAMOUS DEPRESSION. BOW !
Everyone of us suffers from the famous depression, by the means of many things like stress, family problems, relationship problems, financial problems, and etc. Personal experience. Last 2010 when my grand grandmother (grandmother of my mother) died that is my first time to suffer from depress because when i was born she immediately flew here in the Philippines just to take care of me. She's like my mother in my early years (because my parents always go home late) She stays up late just to make me milk whenever i'm crying in the middle of the night. So when she died because of her old age I can only feel pain and too much sadness had taken over me. That's my experience in depression

what is depression by the way ? well as I have experienced 3 years ago, I can describe depression as as feeling sad, blue, unhappy, miserable. This mood can last up to days, weeks, and months.

And I discovered that depression is a disorder of the brain as I have read in "James Hunter's" article entitled "Depression" that can be found in the site www.psychcentral.com He said:
"Evidence from neuroscience, genetics, and clinical investigation demonstrate that depression is a disorder of the brain. Modern brain imaging technologies are revealing that in depression, neural circuits responsible for the regulation of moods, thinking, sleep, appetite, and behavior fail to function properly, and that critical neurotransmitters -- chemicals used by nerve cells to communicate -- are perhaps out of balance. Genetics research indicates that vulnerability to depression results from the influence of multiple genes acting together with environmental factors. Studies of brain chemistry and of mechanisms of action of antidepressant medications continue to inform the development of new and better medical and psychotherapy treatments."

So as the article said, being depressed means some of the neurotransmitters are not balanced well. Like because lack of sleep, loss of appetite, and etc. So people is vulnerable to being depress because of some aspects of life.

Everyone feels sad from time to time, this is a very normal feeling. These feelings are usually short-lived and dissipate after a couple of days. People who suffers from depression can have a hard time dealing with this because these feelings never go away. It's like they can't escape from their dark problems.

there are forms of depressive disorder. This can be found in the article of "NIOMH Staff" which is entitled "depression" that can be found in www.depressiontribe.com they said:

"Some forms of depressive disorder exhibit slightly different characteristics than those described above, or they may develop under unique circumstances. However, not all scientists agree on how to characterize and define these forms of depression. They include:
Psychotic depression, which occurs when a severe depressive illness is accompanied by some form of psychosis, such as a break with reality, hallucinations, and delusions.
Postpartum depression, which is diagnosed if a new mother develops a major depressive episode within one month after delivery. It is estimated that 10 to 15 percent of women experience postpartum depression after giving birth.
Seasonal affective disorder (SAD), which is characterized by the onset of a depressive illness during the winter months, when there is less natural sunlight. The depression generally lifts during spring and summer. SAD may be effectively treated with light therapy, but nearly half of those with SAD do not respond to light therapy alone. Antidepressant medication and psychotherapy can reduce SAD symptoms, either alone or in combination with light therapy."
these are some forms of depressive disorder. The "Psychotic depression" is based on being super sad, people with this form of depression can hallucinate unimaginary things. The "Postpartum depression" is for pregnants when they give birth because of the pain I think. Last the "Seasonal Affective disorder" can be obtain through the change of seasons.

Okay to end this article I would like to suggest that whenever we have a friend or family that is suffering we should support them and always be by their side and make them feel that we are always here to help them on problems even if it is too depressing.

Thanks.

Blogpost 3: Mood Swings; Bipolar Disorder

Hello again i am back ^___^

Now i'm here to discuss about the "Bipolar Disorder" (SEGWAY, hahahahaha) anyways, what is again "Bipolar Disorder" ? Bipolar Disorder is a kind of mood disorder.

Well how to start my introduction to my blogpost ? uhhhmmm... Of course by he means of opinion, personal experience or observation. Okay, how to start.... how to start... Aha ! I'm gonna share a little story about my friend. Here it goes:

My friend in high school have this kind of disorder whenever he is in the mood of mania or he's in his manic episode he always annoy me because of his hyperactivity, even midnight. He would just call me or flood me text messages just to say "HI" "Hello" "Bye" then i was like "What's up with you dude ? it's 3:00 in the morning" but whenever he is in the mood of depression he's like a baby that wants a bottle of milk. There is this one time that we were seriously talking then for some while we noticed him crying in his armchair then we asked if there's something wrong, he said "Nothing". And that's my experience with this disorder.

Roller Coaster. How come a roller coaster expresses people with bipolar disorder ? well as i have here in the article written by: John M. Grohol entititled Bipolar Disorder (Manic Depression) coping with Bipolar That can be found in the site: Psychcentral.com He said:

"Those with bipolar disorder often describe their experience as being on an emotional roller coaster. Cycling up and down between strong emotions can keep a person from having anything approaching a “normal” life. The emotions, thoughts and behavior of a person with bipolar disorder are often experienced as beyond one’s control. Friends, co-workers and family may sometimes intervene to try and help protect their interests and health. This makes the condition exhausting not only for the sufferer, but for those in contact with her or him as well."

Well, as John M. Grohol said Bipolar Disorder is like a roller coaster. It's true because even life is like a roller coaster because of the ups and the downs of life every once in a while. In the emotional roller coaster emotions may interfere people to have a normal life or to cope with normal people that have normal changes when it comes to emotions.

Teenagers ? Well teenagers mostly changes moods rapidly. Even I as a teenager I change moods often. Sometimes i'm feel very sad for a nonsense reason, sometimes i feel very energetic like I wanna annoy everyone, play with anyone, scream, dance and etc. and sometimes ... sometimes.. ahh.. sometimes I feel like I just wanna stare in sky (weird right ?) well that's my personal experience and observation to myself when it comes to changing moods.

Here's an article about Teenagers with Bipolar Disorder, This article is written by: Steve Bressert and entitled: "Teens and Bipolar Disorder" and this article can be found in psychcentral.com he said:

"Teenagers with bipolar disorder have an ongoing combination of extremely high (manic) and low (depressed) moods. Highs may alternate with lows, or the person may feel both extremes at close to the same time. Bipolar disorder usually starts in adult life, before the age of 35. Although rare in young children, it does occur in teenagers. This illness can affect anyone. However, if one or both parents have bipolar disorder, the chances are 5-10% greater that their children will develop the disorder. Bipolar disorder may begin either with manic or depressive symptoms. The manic symptoms may include:
  • severe changes in mood compared to others of the same age and backgroundùeither unusually happy or silly, or very irritable
  • unrealistic highs in self-esteem — for example, a teenager who feels specially connected to God
  • great energy increase and the ability to go with little or no sleep for days without feeling tired"

So Bipolar Disorder can be hereditary because as seen in the article above "If both parents have bipolar disorder, the chances are 5-10% greater that their children will develop the disorder" It means that Teens with Bipolar Disorder can be in the genes of their parents. Bipolar Disorder also starts to take effect when child becomes a teenager.

Okay. I've got nothing to say anymore but i wanna suggest something to everyone that's reading this. Let's accept people with Bipolar Disorder, Let's just think if we are in their situation would it be sad if we are not accepted by society ? So let's just respect their situations, respect their lifestyle, fashion, clothes, trips. Let them go with he flow.

Bye :) #Out

Blogpost 2: The Moody Mood Swings

Mood Swings ? What is MOOD SWINGS ? Is It Normal ? Do rapid change of emotions indicate something like "Bipolar Disorder" ? Do rapid change of emotions stresses people ?

Okay what is mood swings for me ? Well, mood swings in my opinion.. is the sudden change of emotions like for example: "You're happy playing video games or computer games then all of a sudden you get irritated  in the middle of the game for no reason." See the sudden change of emotions ? you are happy playing then the next thing you know you are so pissed off for no reason at all. You might think that these people have dual personality but NO they are just changing moods rapidly. I observed that some people think or is thinking that people who changes emotions rapidly is hard to be close with or hard to be friends with. But for me, it is not hard to deal with people who changes mood frequently they just need friends or people who can understand their situations.

Another thing in front of mass media people who have mood swings are said to have a disorder so called the "Bipolar Disorder". There's an article written by: Thomas L. Schwartz, MD; "Bipolar, Manic Depression, Mood Swings: Are They the Same?" this article can be found in blogs.webmd.com he said:

"mood swings portrayed in the media are often labeled as bipolar disorder and may not give a fair representation of this illness. Bipolar disorder is the same as manic depression. Bipolar patients certainly have mood swings but these have to be differentiated from many other types of mood swings."

So people with mood swings are similar to people with "Bipolar Disorder". Bipolar patients is surely to have mood swings as seen above, And people with mood swings are criticized because it is mostly known as "Bipolar Disorder".

Now, that I have mentioned the "Bipolar Disorder", What is Bipolar Disorder? and How come it is related to mood swings? Let the research begin !
.
.
.
.
.
.
researching....
.
.
.
.
still researching...
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
VOILA ! The research is completed.

This Definition is written by: The Mayo Clinic Staff that is entitled  "Bipolar" this can be found in www.mayoclinic.com they said:

"Bipolar disorder — sometimes called manic-depressive disorder — is associated with mood swings that range from the lows of depression to the highs of mania. When you become depressed, you may feel sad or hopeless and lose interest or pleasure in most activities. When your mood shifts in the other direction, you may feel euphoric and full of energy. Mood shifts may occur only a few times a year, or as often as several times a day. In some cases, bipolar disorder causes symptoms of depression and mania at the same time."

Now as I have analyzed the definition of "Bipolar Disorder" that was written by The Mayo Clinic StaffI propose that mood swing is like the sub-category of the so called "Bipolar Disorder" this kind of disorder is associated with depression and mania or lack of interest when it comes to sleeping. So therefore, "Bipolar Disorder" is a mental illness to the human mind. And it affects the way of living of the people that has a "Bipolar Disorder."

As I have observed people with "Bipolar Disorder" needs understanding and patience from the people surrounding them. I suggest that whenever we meet people with these kind of disorder whether it is "Bipolar Disorder" or 'Mood Swings" we should give our full patience and understanding because all people changes moods as time flies.

Well, that's it guys hope to see you soon. Good Day !

Blogpost 1: 4 Letters 1 Word = M.O.O.D.

What is your mood today ? happy ? sad ? angry ? fearful ?

Well for me, my mood for today is I am of course... happy because God did not forget to wake me up. I Thank him for that. Anyways I am a moody person. I change moods frequently. Moods, Moods, Moods, and Moods. What is a "MOOD" ?

Well a mood are a shorter - term emotional states, typical lasting for hours, they can also last for days and weeks.

moods can also affect human behavior of a human person and it's       relationship with other human beings.

There's a lot of things that can affect our mood like colors, movies, something said to you, peoples and FOOD yes ! you read it right F O O D the one thing people can't resist can actually affect our moods. like what Elaine Magee wrote in her article: "How Food Affects Your Moods

" Can your diet really help put you in a good mood? And can what you choose to eat or drink encourage bad
moods or mild depression?
While certain diets or foods may not ease depression (or put you instantly in a better mood), they may help as part of an overall treatment plan. There's more and more research indicating that, in some ways, diet may influence mood. We don't have the whole story yet, but there are some interesting clues.
Basically the science of food's affect on mood is based on this: Dietary changes can bring about changes in our brain structure (chemically and physiologically), which can lead to altered behavior.

How Can You Use Food to Boost Mood?

1. Don't Banish Carbs -- Just Choose 'Smart' Ones

2. Get More Omega-3 Fatty Acids

3. Eat a Balanced Breakfast"

So, as seen above food dieting can affect our mood, or even in our everyday snack/ food. We can be happy if we eat our favorite foods like ice cream, cake, leche flan and other desserts. We can be irritated if we eat expired foods or we don't like the food; for example I don' like eating "munggo" I get irritated when munggo is the only food on the table. And many more mood can be expressed by just eating food.

Danger !!! bad mood ahead ....
Is there a way to control moods ? like this ? Well luckily Yes ! there is an article  written by: "Joyce Meyer" entitled "MoodControl" in www.joycemeyer.org

"There's a time to pray and a time to act. And even though it's not easy, confrontation is often necessary. If you need to confront someone or something in your life, make sure you do it. If someone has treated you badly, you don't have to let them continue to disrespect you, de-value you or mistreat you. Obviously it won't help you, and it won't help that person either. Confront them about it.
Maybe what you need to confront isn't a person. Maybe it's something you've let creep into your life uninvited, like negative thoughts, a bad attitude or habitual sin. The good news is that you don't have to let it control you either—if you'll confront it."
"Ways to control your mood:
1. Confront Your Bad Mood
2. When Your Mood Sinks—Resist
3. Stability Releases Ability"

So there's some way to control our mood. Because mood is just an emotional state of our mind and everything in out mind is controllable so therefore moods can be controlled, we just need to find a way or technique on how we can control it without hassles.
